Hi Victoria! Please tell us a little about who you are, where you're from and what you do?
Born in Sydney and based in Berlin, I am a creative being that shares my love for craft through facilitating play workshops and sharing my art online. My work follows one motto “if you can imagine it, you can create it” and I hope to share this motto with the rest of the world. With my work, I want to inspire others to reconnect with their child-like self and rediscover a sense of everyday play. I want to create a place that feels supported and encouraged - a home to color.
Could you share the story behind your wonderful Tsuno artwork on our Overnight Pads?
I love experimenting with shapes, and for this artwork, I wanted to challenge myself by creating playful characters from different forms. Some of them are doing fun, silly moves—things you might shy away from during your period. So the idea is, with the coverage of overnight pads, you won’t need to worry.
Could you share with us some of your favourite artworks or projects in your career thus far?
Ooh yes, the promise I made to myself when I was studying to become a designer was that I would only work with companies that are doing ‘good.’ I didn’t want to take on projects that crossed my moral compass. I'm privileged and fortunate to say that I’ve always stayed true to that. Working at Clue, a period tracking app, has been one of the most rewarding jobs I've had. The best part of my time there was speaking with people who have cycles and understanding their individual experiences. This insight is crucial when creating digital products aimed at improving and supporting people's lives, and it’s what drove me to become a product designer.
Following this passion, I decided to start my own business, Pinato Crafts, where I facilitate play workshops and share my love for crafting online. It was a terrifying move, but now, a year in, it’s been the most rewarding and satisfying decision I’ve ever made. My play workshops are based on an expressive arts framework with my own twist. I want to show people that creativity and art aren’t just for designers and artists; they're for everyone. With the right guidance, art can express things we don't always have the words for—it's an honest and unfiltered form of communication. Yet, always remaining playful.
How do you navigate your creative practice and your menstrual cycle?
This is a tough one. I don’t really have a routine or system in place, but I’ve noticed that the week before my period, I tend to feel restless and anxious. My emotions are all over the place, and sometimes it feels like I have no control over my thoughts. As I get older, I’ve been experiencing more pre-period symptoms: headaches, breast tenderness, bloating, muscle pain etc. So, there are two things I do during this time: a) I swear I won’t make any important decisions, and b) I take a lot of breaks—even if that means spending a random weekday in bed watching Netflix. I guess the bottom line is to give myself and body some grace <3
What's been inspiring you this week?
Places always inspire me, whether it's visiting a craft store, taking a walk in nature, or sitting in a café. When I step into a craft store and see all the materials and resources, it sparks my imagination, making me wonder: What’s possible here? What can I create with this? Nature is where my shapes and forms come to life. And when I sit in cafés, I get to do a lot of people-watching—which I absolutely love, though the people I’m watching might not enjoy it as much, haha!
